Contact Calls Program – A Friendly “Hello”
Volunteer West Island’s CONTACT program aims to reduce the isolation felt by those living alone by offering weekly friendly phone calls made by wonderful volunteers. This bilingual telephone service is available to all residents aged 55 and over, who feel isolated and who would appreciate talking and exchanging in friendly conversation.
In the event that you do not answer several days in a row when your CONTACT volunteer calls and we have not been notified of your absence beforehand, a neighbour or family member, whose contact information you have given us, will be contacted to verify your well being. If this person cannot be reached or cannot reach you, the coordinator at Volunteer West Island will be required to intervene.
It is important to mention that all CONTACT volunteers have been subject to police verification and are therefore reliable.
Please note: CONTACT is NOT a mental health service. Our volunteers are not counsellors and are not trained in any form of crisis intervention. For mental health support please call the West Island Crisis Center 514-684-6160.
If you are interested in receiving this service, or know someone who could benefit from it, please contact us at outreach@volunteerwestisland.org or call (514) 457-5445 ext. 228.
