Young at Heart 55+ Club
The Young at Heart 55+ Club is a comprehensive outreach program that organizes weekly courses and diverse activities that encourage intellectual, physical, and cultural engagement for seniors. VWI aims to support seniors in profiting from social interactions while bettering their mental and physical health.
An annual membership fee is required to be part of the Young at Heart 55+ Club. This membership provides access to register to the scheduled programming, as well as free entry to workshops.
Senior Café
Volunteer West Island offers occasional activities and workshops that differ from the scheduled programming, that are open to anyone 55+ in the West Island community. These activities can include crafts, educational workshops, information sessions, etc. Activities are free for active Young at Heart members. A small fee applies for non-members.
The Senior Café was designed to offer individuals 55+ a welcoming space where they could meet others and feel a sense of community. Individuals can enjoy live music, refreshments, great company and even some dancing! This event occurs four times a year.
Therapy Animal Visits “Caring Paws”
A dedicated group of volunteers offers therapy animal visits to people from diverse centers of the Ouest Island and surrounding communities.
Recognizing the therapeutic bond that exists between animals and people, the program is offered to citizens who reside in retirement homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, universities, CEGEPs and other public institutions. The benefits of animals for people of all ages are numerous. They are often referred to as companionship, reassurance, and affection, but they also help calm agitated people, stimulate conversations, improve reading skills, and reduce student stress during exam times.
