Collective Christmas 2017

RBC Volunteers: Ten years of celebrating and making others happy!

This marks the tenth year that enthusiastic volunteers from RBC have been helping out at the annual Collective Christmas celebration for clients of West Island mental health groups.  Participants included Centre Bienvenue; CIUSSS de l’Ouest de l’Ile (PACT); Parrainage Civique de la Banlieue Ouest; L’Équipe Entreprise; Perspective Communautaire en Santé Mentale; Résidence Bienvenue; and Ressources Communautaires Omega.  The festivities were oorganized by Diane Veuhoff, Mental Health Community Worker from West Island Citizen Advocacy, and her team of representatives from the other organizations, in collaboration with Volunteer West Island’s Corporate Volunteer Program.

In 2008, working with VWI, a team of RBC volunteers set up tables, served Christmas dinner, iced cupcakes and tidied up after the party. They had such a good time they decided that this would be their project and they return every year, much to the joy of the Collective Christmas organizers!

The very welcome assistance of RBC volunteers affords the community organizations’ staff and clients a rare opportunity to celebrate and socialize together.

“Our party was great!  About 170 people registered beforehand.  There were a lot of walk-ins also; it worked so well.  RBC once again was awesome!!!  We honestly could not have such a successful event without them.  They really appear to enjoy themselves also”, enthused Ms Veuhoff.

“All of the volunteers look forward to assisting in this event.  Year after year I have many of the same volunteers asking to come back as they truly enjoy giving back to the community.  I even have to ask no more than once as I receive so many names,” said Chery Matte, RBC Liaison.

The “Dream Team” from RBC, working together with VWI and community group members to make a difference, exemplifies the importance of partnership among corporate and community partners.
