Join Volunteer West Island and community organisations to welcome refugees and new arrivals

Volunteer West Island received many inquiries from volunteers wanting to help with the impending arrival of the Syrian refugees. Consult an extensive list of local organisations working with refugees and immigrants in Quebec: La table de concertation des organisations au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes. You may also wish to contact cities, boroughs, churches, synagogues and mosques and student clubs on campus.

Donate:

You may wish to make a much needed donation to a local or international organisation helping vulnerable Syrian families:

Coordinated Volunteer Efforts:

Register with trusted organisations in the community to help with refugees and new arrivals. Existing food banks, thrift shops and community based organisations are great places to help out. Volunteers may help as tutors, accompanying families, sorting donations and other activities:

Community Collections and Foods Drives:

Collections are happening across the Island of Montreal. Coordinated efforts will ensure that immediate and ongoing needs can be met with organisations like:

Human Concern International

HCI is in need of new and used blankets, pillows, towels, shoes, boots, and toys and has organized multiple collection points:

The Canadian Alliance for Syrian Aid (CASA)

CASA is accepting food donations every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 12265 Boulevard Laurentien.

High School, CEGEP, and University Students can work together and contact religious groups and other associations on campus like Amnesty International and UNICEF to maximize the impact or their volunteer work.
