Long-time volunteer Margo Donovan has been honoured for her contributions to the West Island community at the recent Outstanding Seniors Award Gala. She was nominated by Volunteer West Island where she has volunteered since 2004 and was among the winners selected by the Dynamic Senior Living Committee. The award is presented annually to recognize and appreciate seniors who make a difference in their community.
Margo began working in 2004 with VWI as a volunteer receptionist twice a week, a post she still occupies. In addition to this role, she created and oversees the popular monthly Seniors’ Café at Volunteer West Island’s headquarters in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. This activity was designed to help seniors remain connected and draws attendees from all over the West Island.
“Margo is responsible for all aspects of the Seniors’ Café,” writes Terry Aitken, Coordinator of Community Programs at Volunteer West Island, “…from planning to implementation, and even arranging transportation to enable those with reduced mobility to attend what has become a highly-anticipated event, drawing upwards of 50 participants each month”. The Seniors’ Café has become Volunteer West Island’s most popular activity, thanks to Margo’s creativity, initiative, and hard work with a team of dedicated volunteers like herself. Margo personifies the spirit of Volunteer West Island, making a difference in her community by helping others.
